Air Fryer Blackberry & Apple Crumble

A couple of months ago I finally gave in and purchased an air fryer.

Well well…the rumours were right. I absolutely love my air fryer. Not only does it take practically half the time to cook most foods, it’s also more economic to use than a conventional oven, giving you two very strong reasons there to try it for yourself.

The one I use is the Ninja Air Fryer Max PRO 6.2L.

I would recommend either purchasing a one drawer air fryer with a 6 litre capacity or above, or two drawer air fryers – as once you start using it, you’ll want that additional space, believe me!

Crumbles are amazing for many reasons. They’re bleedin’ delicious, comforting and remind me of feeling absolutely stuffed after a Sunday roast – with just a little bit more room for pudding.

So…I wanted to create a healthier (but just as tasty) version of a traditional comfort classic.

You can pretty much use most fruits in a crumble. I would recommend to opt for low glycemic index fruits to support blood sugar. Fruits I adore for a crumble are:

Any berries of choice!, pears, plums, rhubarb, cherries, peaches, raspberries and/or  strawberries.

For this recipe, I have chosen blackberries and apples because it is a killer combo and if you haven’t tried it, I guarantee you’ll like it just as much as I do.

Also, if you’re looking for a crumble recipe that’s healthy and easy to make – this is the one for you.

Ingredients (serves 3)

  • 70g oats
  • 80g butter
  • 4 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 handfuls of blackberries
  • 3 granny smith apples (or any apples you like), chopped
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • Topping: 9 tbsp yoghurt

For the filling, pour the chopped apples, blackberries and 3 tbsp maple syrup into an oven proof dish that fits within your air fryer. Air fry on 190c for 10 minutes. Mix the mixture and air fry for a further 8 minutes.

For the crumble topping, with your finger tips simply rub 1 tbsp maple syrup, butter and oats into a crumbly texture. After the filling is cooked, add the crumble mix to the top and place back into the air fryer on 190c for 8 minutes. Serve with a dollop of yoghurt!
